Noblesville Creates Awards Debuts, Plus Two Exhibits, Kids Dulcimer Class and First Friday
NOBLESVILLE, IND. — This September, unplug and create with Noblesville Creates in hipstoric Downtown Noblesville. Celebrate the arts during our Fourth Anniversary Celebration, see a Ball State-inspired exhibit, become a card-carrying member and more.

Fourth Annual Anniversary Celebration & 2016 Noblesville Creates Awards, Sept. 17
On Sept. 17, 6-9 p.m., Noblesville Creates hosts its fourth annual anniversary party with the debut of the Noblesville Creates Awards to celebrate our region’s burgeoning arts scene and recognize some of our most valuable artists and arts advocates. Join us at Noblesville Creates to enjoy dinner and drinks, live music, hands-on arts experiences and art-filled bustling campus during our premiere fundraiser of the year.
Awards will be given in the following categories:
– Artist of the Year
– Emerging Artist of the Year
– Arts Patron of the Year
– Emerging Arts Patron of the Year
Nominees must live or work in the Nickel Plate Region (Noblesville, Fishers, Cicero, Arcadia, Atlanta and Tipton) or made have made a major, positive impact on the local arts community.
Tickets to the 2016 Noblesville Creates Awards are $35; corporate table sponsorships are available for $400 (8 tickets). Maple Street closed for the event to accommodate a large event tent. To get tickets, visit noblesvillecreates.org or call 317-452-3690.
EXHIBIT: Cardinal Virtues, Sept. 2-24
The arts of Ball State Alumni will fill our Judge Stone House gallery with artwork in a range of media during the Cardinal Virtues exhibit Sept. 2-24. The show is part of Noblesville Creates’ year-long Bicentennial focus and will recognize how BSU graduates and leaders influence our community.
Why focus on just one school? “We are trying to build connections within the larger community,” says Aili McGill, director of Noblesville Creates. “One way to do that is to bring together members of a smaller community. And it’s fun that we have so many BSU grads here!”
The exhibit is open to the public during regular business hours; free admission. Most works will be for sale to the public.
EXHIBIT: Far Flung Photography, Sept. 1-30
Radio host regulars John Cinnamon and Ann Craig-Cinnamon will share their travel experiences through photography as Noblesville Creates’ Showcase Artists. Their pieces will hang in the Stephenson House gallery Sept. 1-30. (Join us for an artists’ reception Sept. 23, 6-9 p.m.)
John and Ann have traveled to more than 80 countries and all seven continents to chase adventure and world-class events including Oktoberfest in Munich, Carnivale in Rio, the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona. Their photos of iconic landmarks, cities and scenery have been published in magazines and newspapers. They have also had the opportunity to photograph animals in their natural habitats in Botswana, Zambia, Kenya, Sumatra, the Galapagos Islands and Antarctica.

CLASS: Kids’ Dulcimer Class, Sept. 15-Oct. 20 (Thursdays for 6 weeks)
Local musician Sharon Broyles shares her talent and dulcimer expertise in this music class for children ages 5-12. Kids will explore the stringed instrument by learning to play simple tunes on the hammered and mountain dulcimers. A variety of music styles will be explored, with an emphasis on Irish music. Kids will also sing, act out poems using sound and rhythm, and sample a variety of other percussion instruments.
Broyles discovered the hammered and mountain dulcimers at the world’s largest dulcimer festival in Michigan years ago, where she was mesmerized by a massive Irish music jam group. She learned to play and now returns to several festival locations as a performer and instructor, where she mesmerizes newcomers with her own incredible talent. Her training comes from her own personal study, trading knowledge with other Irish musicians and active involvement in Irish music.
Class times are 5:30-7 p.m. for kids ages 5-7; 7:30-9 p.m. for kids ages 8-12. Price is $95 for 6-week session (6 classes), includes use of dulcimers and artist instruction.

First Friday, Sept. 2, 6-9 p.m.
Admission is always free for you to enjoy activities and entertainment, and beer and wine available (for purchase). Ball State alumni artists from the NPArts region will come together to showcase their art in Cardinal Virtues. Mingle with these local artists at First Friday to see their artwork and learn what they’ve been up to since their college years. Enjoy our beer and wine bar, a BSU-themed hands-on activity, and live music featuring jazzy music from local band Cadre.
