29 Apr Volunteer Opportunity: Chalk It Up! Contest
Prevail’s 100 Men Campaign is looking for local artists to support their new event at Federal Hill Commons on Saturday, May 12 from 2-4pm. The “Chalk it Up!” Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest will highlight the artistic and creative talent of children and bring the community together. As Prevail states, “Art is valuable because it allows children to process their world and helps develop problem solving abilities.” The theme of this contest, “What does SAFE mean to you?”, coincides with important developmental assets that Prevail strives to reinforce. Registration is free and chalk will be provided at no charge. There will be prizes for groups Pre-K to grade 2, grades 3 to 5, grades 6 to 8, and grades 9-12.
“Art has the role in education of helping children become like themselves instead of more like everyone else.”–Sydney Clemens
Prevail is looking for volunteer artists for two portions of the event:
1) To provide an instructional “how to” session and chalk art tips to participating kids from 2-2:30pm
2) To help with judging the contest from 3:30-4pm
