Artist Opportunity – Anderson Mural

Purdue University is requesting artist proposals for a painted mural to be installed on a concrete wall in a car tunnel that travels under a train bridge.

The selected mural will be a colorful installation with an emphasis on honoring Anderson, Indiana innovation.

Plant 3 is an innovation park in Anderson, Indiana near Scatterfield Road and Mounds Road. The project is on the former Delco Remy Plant 3 which was built in 1923 for the production of starting motors. Later headlights were produced there in 1928. In 1929 the lighting portion of DR became its own GM division, Guide Lamp. These buildings survived until 2009 when GM leveled the entire complex.

The selected mural will be installed on the north east concrete wall in the tunnel which is approximately 80’-0” W x 12’3” T (See Attached Drawings and photo’s) The selected mural will use all or the majority of the wall. An additional wall to the south west of a similar size will be selected for a second mural if funding is available.

Deadline for project submission is Sept 8th, 2016 by 4 pm with installation on or before November 25, 2016*.

Artists are required to submit a proposal based on guidelines outlined in the Submission Application. Selected pieces will be determined by a selection committee, which will review and evaluate proposal submissions. The selection committee’s evaluation criteria is posted.
