The Prism Project at the Center is a performing arts program developed by Ball State University and designed to be physically, developmentally and cognitively appropriate for youth with disabilities. The program is a four-week camp culminating in a final performance, which this year will take place Sunday, June 25, in the Studio Theater at the Center for the Performing Arts.

The goal of the Prism Project is to provide an engaging performing arts program and close the gap in recreational activities for individuals with disabilities ages 6-22. The program’s unique design enable children to express themselves and engage with others while developing self-confidence, gaining creative arts experience and building friendships.

Our goals for the performers are as follows:

  • Participate in each subject area: instrumental music, vocal music, dance, theater)
  • Increase participation in each specific area from one rehearsal to the next
  • Take part in the final performance
  • Build self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Enjoy themselves and the performing arts!

Our focus is on positive encouragement. No performer is required to participate in any way, but we work very hard to make each activity as fun and engaging as possible to encourage as much participation as possible.

Schedule:

  • Parent Orientation: May 31, 6:30-8:30PM
  • Camp: Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays, June 2-23, 9:30-11:30AM
  • Dress Rehearsal: June 23, 9:30-11:30AM
  • Performance: June 25 at 2PM; Performers arrive at 1PM

Who should participate in the camp?
The camp is designed to accommodate children and young adults with exceptionalities. We provide one-on-one support and have a history of working with a variety of unique needs, including autism, cognitive delays, limited verbal communication ability, alternative communication requirements, as well as physical disabilities and sensory support needs such as vision impairments. For more information regarding accommodations provided, please contact Outreach@TheCenterPresents.org

Openings for volunteer Buddies to assist in camp facilitation and internships are available.  If you are interested, please email Outreach@TheCenterPresents.org
