First Fridays with Noblesville Creates is a free open house event each month. Our campus, just south of the Downtown Square, comes to life with new art exhibits, refreshments, and a cash bar serving local beer and wine -- often accompanied by local, musical entertainment.
At this year’s Clay Throwdown, participating ceramic artists will go wheel-to-wheel in a fast-paced live pottery competition at the Noblesville Creates campus located at 107 S. 8th Street. Inspired by the spirited creativity of competitive ceramic programs like The Great Pottery Throwdown, this one-day event challenges potters to think quickly, adapt creatively, and showcase their technical skills under pressure.
Unlike traditional juried exhibitions or multi-day contests, the Throwdown format keeps competitors on their toes with surprise challenges revealed live during the event. Contestants may be tasked with creating the widest bowl possible, throwing blindfolded, working with their non-dominant hand, building the tallest functional form, or surviving a pottery-inspired “musical chairs” elimination round where the last artist standing claims victory.
Throughout the competition, judges will provide live commentary, critiques, and feedback as participants race against the clock to complete each challenge. Equal parts skill showcase, creative experiment, and audience entertainment, the Clay Throwdown invites the community to experience ceramics in an exciting and unexpected new way.
