Gal’s Guide will put a spotlight on how important Madge Oberholtzer was to destroying the Klan in Indiana. Founder of Gal’s Guide, Riwo, will present Madge’s life, the choices she had to make in the context of women's history, and the brutal crime that should not have happened. Riwo will honor Madge’s spirit and thank her for her wisdom. The event will continue with an interview with the author of Madge Charlotte Halsema Ottinger before leading into a heartfelt community discussion. Gal’s Guide will also provide access to books to learn more about the time period, the trial itself, as well as many books that answer the question, what can we do now? Gal’s Guide was a recipient of the Advancing Racial Equity Collection Development Grant that allowed them to purchase books curated by Indiana Humanities Scholars that addressed topics such as race, systematic racism and the Black experience in Indiana and beyond.
