Noblesville Visitor’s Center Art Exhibit: Jim Oliver
December 1- January 31, Fri.-Sun. 12-5 p.m.
Noblesville Visitor’s Center
FREE!
Jim Oliver has been a wood craftsman most of his life. He operated a small business in the early nineties making Amish style furniture, culminating in being juried into the 1996 Country Folk Arts Show at the Indiana State Fair grounds. Simultaneously, he pursued his interest in fine arts, taking drawing classes and
self teaching through library books and watching tv personality/artist Bob Ross. Painting with acrylics and oils, and drawing, became a hobby in his spare time outside of his job in the circulation department of a local library. Not long after Jim married his co-worker and fellow artist Kristina, he and his wife took a road trip to the Rockies, after which both were inspired to leave the library to pursue a creative life full-time. Jim has combined his love of wood and his drawing techniques to create art through pyrography. Also known as wood-burning, pyrography employs a pencil like tool with a heated metal tip to burn designs. Influenced by his trip out west, Jim’s current focus is on creating wildlife scenes. He was recently juried into the Hamilton County Artist’s Association and has had many of his pieces on exhibit in various local galleries.
