Noblesville Creates partner Meyer-Najem has transformed the second story of their beautiful new Fishers building into a bright, modern, open space, perfect for featuring the contemporary works of our local artists. With a passion for supporting the local arts community, Meyer-Najem will host art exhibits viewable to the public from 8am – 5pm, Monday – Friday. For the months of April – June 2018, local artist Warren Miller will be showcasing a selection of his bold, graphic paintings. Inspired by the artwork of his father and grandfather, Warren pursued an interested in art at an early age and continued on to study graphic design at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. After being laid off from a graphic design position, Warren began utilizing his design skills in large-scale, colorful paintings that touch on a variety of topics ranging from political issues to Warren’s own unique perspective as a deaf artist. He has been featured in the national magazine DeafLife, and his artwork has been featured on the ABC Family Channel’s popular show, “Switched at Birth.” Noblesville Creates will host an opening reception for this exhibit at a date and time to-be-determined.

Senior Art of Hamilton Southeastern High School and Fishers High School Juried Exhibit

Judged Exhibit of HCAA Juried Artist members’ artwork. Once a year, the Juried Artists of HCAA battle against each other for ribbon awards, determined by a panel of guest judges with no connections to the HCAA! It is an all-in-good-fun competition! Come see the “best” artwork HCAA has to offer and meet our Juried Artist members and guest judges at the opening reception on May 4, 6:30 – 8.

These classes focus on art exploration and learning concepts, mixed with a little art history. A project will be completed during each class time.
11:00 – 11:30 a.m. Art for Ages 2-4
Ages 2-4 will explore a variety of mediums each week by participating in activities, creative play.
1:30-2:30 Homeschool Art for ages 6-11
4:00-5:00 After-school Art for ages 6-11
Students will learn about famous artists, and practice techniques using a variety of mediums, as well as skill building. Students will also learn presentation skills and how to positively critique their work and others. On most class days they will complete a project as well as work on something of their choice if there is additional time.
Students will choose their medium and subject matter working progressively on their work each week until completion receiving tips and technique advice along the way. Collective exercises in skill building occur frequently at the beginning of each class. Students learn to evaluate their work and set project criteria and goals.

Noblesville Visitor’s Center HCAA Featured Juried Artist Members Revolving Exhibit: Walt Thacker

HCAA is sponsoring monthly exhibits of selected member’s work to be on display at the Noblesville Visitors Center. Walt Thacker is the featured artist for May. Walt has always been a good artist but getting married, starting a family, and being the owner and operator of a bakery/snack route, pushed the artist within to the back burner. Oil painting was just one of many hobbies, but at age 36 something clicked. Walt was settling down and developing patience. It was then that he picked up his brushes and began to paint, and has never stopped. Skill level improved, artwork progressed, and 25 years later, Walt is still at it.
Walt is a self taught oil-painter who developed his own primitive style and paints by his own vision. His subject matter is usually ordinary mid-western scenes, with enough action going on that the painting hints of a story. Most scenes are of real places but sometimes the scenes are from his imagination. His paintings are always upbeat, cheerful, and engaging to look at. As Walt would say, “Good karma creates good artwork!”
Walt is a juried member of the Hamilton County Artist’s Association and a member artist of Noblesville Creates. He currently resides in Carmel, IN.

The Butler Did It, Again!

Theatre-goers looking for a night of mystery should check out The Butler Did It, Again! at The Cat Theatre. This play combines the thrill of a murder mystery with the hilarity of a raucous comedy. Presented by Improbable Fiction Theatre Company, the same team that created the highly successful The Butler Did It, this sequel furthers the hysterical antics. The mystery writers are brought together once again by Miss Maple for a fun-filled weekend party, each impersonating the detective characters they write, including the gumshoe, sophisticated New York couple (à la Nick and Nora), soft-spoken crime-solving priest, Asian “quotemaster,” and cowboy investigator, with the addition of a novelist who writes supernatural fiction.
The hostess has prepared exciting events to challenge the writers during the party, but one occurs that she didn’t count on – an actual murder! The writers scramble to solve “whodunit” before they become the next victim. But actual detectives they are not, so they blunder through this real-life investigation, with comical results.
The Butler Did It, Again! runs May 11-20, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m., with the doors opening 45 minutes prior to the show. NICE Workshop #2 The Odyssey and Follow The River

This year we are grateful to have the support of an Indiana Humanities Initiative grant. In this workshop, we will be looking at imagery, symbolism, and thematic interpretation in the selected passages from The Odyssey and Follow The River. Guest lecturers/panelists: Invited guest Follow The River author James Alexander Thom cannot be with us, but author Sarah E. Morin and anthropologist/artist/writer Alys Caviness-Gober will do their best to represent him as they facilitate discussion of Follow The River. Dr. Paul Morin-Wilson, PhD in Theatre and Performance Studies, Specialist in Ancient Languages will discuss the various physical and psychological journeys of Odysseus, including the journey of a warrior returning to civilian life. You are welcome to bring the tools of your creativity (any media of art, music, writing, creating) to work with as we discuss the books and find inspiration for your creative submissions. Fourth Friday Young Songwriters Series

Our Young Songwriters series occurs on the Fourth Friday of every month, $5 at the door to support youth arts in our community (a $5 donation is available via Square Market but feel free to give more at any time: http://squareup.com/store/LSS). We are very excited to welcome young songwriters to the LSS stage each month for an evening of original music. This series is the brainchild of Gavin Cooley, a Noblesville High School student and singer-songwriter. Some may say artistic people are a little “different,” and this exhibit will give Juried Artist members the opportunity to display their Unique styles. Perhaps they see the world as abstract, perhaps they see the world as opposite to their personal vision, perhaps they just are a little off-center. Whatever the Juried Artist members display in this exhibit, the work will be FUN. This one-of-a-kind art exhibit continues through July 21.
