Deadline extended: Maker-In-Residence at Ignite Studio

Ignite Studio invites central Indiana artists to serve as a Maker-in-Residence in 2022. Ignite Studio is an arts-focusedmakerspace designed to offer broad access to the Hamilton County community in a variety of art and makingpractices. We help patrons on-ramp their creativity by introducing new and exciting equipment and art focusedexperiences. The Maker-in-Residence program is an integral part of the mission to help inspire and empower peopleto connect to various art and making practices. Selected residents will receive a $3000 stipend and a modest budgetfor supplies.

Requirements of Selected Resident:

  • Serve a four-month span in Ignite Studio as a resident artist.
  • Utilize a 1600 sq. ft. studio space as fully as possible to share your creative process with Ignite Studio patrons.
  • Devote 96 hours over the course of the residency to offering patron experiences related to your art/makingpractice. Schedule will be determined by the resident in coordination with Ignite Studio staff after the selectionprocess is complete. Applications are adjudicated on the strength of the potential resident’s ability to thinkcreatively about their teaching practices as well as their making practice.
  • Exhibit work in Ignite Studio. Artists may sell work that is exhibited in space provided they handle all aspects ofthe transaction. Ignite Studio will not take any commission for works sold out of our space. 
  • Artist may teach paid classes from studio space provided they were scheduled prior to being selected for theresidence and all dates were submitted with application. Chosen residents may not leverage Ignite Studio or theHamilton East Public Library to sell additional class slots once selected for the residency.
  • Applicant must have evening and weekend availability.

    • If providing samples of your work necessitates video or audio clips, please include links to those samples onYouTube.
  • Teaching proposal
    • 500 word max
    • What will you do during the 96 hours you are required to engage our patrons? What teaching plan do youhave? Will you offer classes? Workshops? Drop-in activities? Open studio time? Give us a specific idea of whatyou will offer to patrons.
  • Other Commitments
    • What other teaching, exhibit, fair, festival or other commitments do you already have during the course ofyour residency?
  • Let us know how you learned about the Ignite Studio and/or Maker-in-Residence Program.

Dates and Deadlines

  • Application Deadline: November 3, 2021
  • Submitted applications will be reviewed for the both the Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter Residencies. 
  • Please note in your application your availability and interest for both timeslots.
  • Spring/Summer Residency: May – August, 2022
  • Fall/Winter Residency: September – December, 2022
