11 Jun Impressions: John Dierdorf Showcase
Fresh from a successful exhibit in the Meyer Najem Gallery in Fishers, John Dierdorf returns home to Noblesville and to Noblesville Creates in June 2019 with “Impressions,” his first showcase exhibit in the Stephenson House gallery. The timing couldn’t be better, as Dierdorf celebrates his 50th Noblesville High School reunion this year (‘69). In many ways, he’s come full circle. Fifty years ago, Dierdorf was just beginning to emerge as an artist. He was off to college, and would soon pick up a brush for the first time. He developed his painting style in the ‘70s, alongside a talent for using “loose, spontaneous brushstrokes that capture the essence of a subject.” Soon life got too busy with work and family, and Dierdorf put down the brush. Luckily, his work as Principal and Chairman of the Board at a prominent architectural firm was creative and led him to exciting building projects. One such project was a cluster of historic buildings on Eighth Street in Noblesville. As luck would have it, Browning Day Mullins & Dierdorf was hired in 2012 to renovate what is now the Noblesville Creates campus, then a newly minted charitable organization. Dierdorf not only supervised the building renovations, but he also became a founding member of the Noblesville Creates Board.
Dierdorf completed his six-year tenure on the NPArts board in 2018. He was instrumental in guiding the vision, mission and growth of our organization. Dierdorf now contributes to Noblesville Creates as a showcasing artist member. We like to think that Noblesville Creates has also inspired a creative awakening in this hometown hero. He reports:
“Since those first eight-person meetings, NPArts has grown from being defined by the Nickel Plate Railroad route into the arts connector and hub that it is today,” he says.
“In the last seven years, I focused more on evolving my style and technique — with much of the inspiration coming from involvement with the Noblesville Creates Board and events. Abstract impression has evolved as the preferred style, doing mostly florals and buildings — can’t get away from being an architect.”
