23 Jan Meyer Najem Showcase: Bobbi K Samples “Floral Tour of Bermuda”
Bobbi Samples is no stranger to Noblesville Creates, from being a longtime member of the board and a gala committee chair to an annual Showcase artist, her talents and support are seen and felt everywhere that Noblesville Creates has a presence. And for 2023, Bobbi returns to Meyer Najem’s second-floor gallery to adorn the walls with her latest series, a “Floral Tour of Bermuda.”
Flowers are a staple of Bobbi’s work, and her style is a definitive one. Strong, bold colors mirror who Bobbi is—a bright, bubbling personality who isn’t afraid to take a canvas and turn it into a delightful garden.
A recent summer’s trip to Bermuda is her latest inspiration. “The island was gorgeous—so many colors of green, from lime to dark to fern, all in one bush! The flowers just captivated me; we had to start taking photos because I knew it would inspire a show.” It was a short three-day stop on a summer cruise, but the impact on Bobbi was immense.
When inspired, Bobbi can create an entire exhibit of art in a matter of a month. She scores out her painting, then uses a large brush to create the background. Lights and shadows come next, with her trusty putty knife bringing in the color and her signature texture. A few coats of a fine oil glaze give the perfect high-gloss results, and also adds a UV protectant. Bobbi is always thinking of where artwork could go, not just living rooms but sun porches and bathrooms as well. These added protectants make her original work versatile for any space so her extraordinary flowers can be enjoyed by all.
