Michael Janosky Awarded Dunes Residency

Noblesville artist Michael Janosky has been selected as a 2018 Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Artist-in-Residence. Janosky was born and raised in Michigan City, IN near the Indiana Dunes and Lake Michigan. He is a 1983 graduate of Michigan City Rogers High School and a 1987 Purdue University graduate. Having resided in Central Indiana for the past 15 years, Janosky is recognized for his oil on canvas depictions of the local landscape as well as dunes scenes. He is a resident studio artist at Noblesville Creates and a juried artist member of Indiana Artisan and the Indiana Artists Club.

According to the National Park Service website, The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program continues a rich heritage of artists who were inspired by the dunes and whose work and words helped move others to preserve this special place along the southern shore of Lake Michigan. The AIR program at Indiana Dunes offers professional artists the opportunity to live along the lakeshore for two weeks giving them uninterrupted time to create art that helps generate increased appreciation and support for the national lakeshore.

In exchange, Janosky will donate one painting created during his stay to the park. The artwork becomes a permanent part of the park’s collection, which will be available for the public to view at various art galleries and other historic locations. His residency will run from the last week of September through the first week of October.  “The purpose of my residency is to reconnect with the landscape of my youth, immerse myself in the dunes environment, gather reference material, and create a body of work influenced by the experience,” said Janosky.

Janosky is looking forward to be able to share, from an artist’s perspective, the unique and distinctive characteristics of the dunes environment. “I believe having the opportunity for an extended stay in this area for the first time in decades will have a significant impact on my awareness of this special natural environment,” Janosky explained. “I am interested to see the influence that this experience will have on my work and how it will show in my future paintings.”

Janosky’s work is available to view and purchase at his Noblesville studio at Noblesville Creates as well The Hoosier Salon Gallery in the Carmel Arts and Design District and The Indiana Artisan Store.
