07 Jan Noblesville Creates Presents: “Bouts…and Beyond” by Stuart Troxel at Four Day Ray
Stuart Troxel has been an artist for as long as he can remember. A native Hoosier and self-taught artist who focuses on oil painting, he started exhibiting full time in 2015. But Stuart expresses himself beyond the canvas – he also focuses on writing – typewritten correspondence, novels, music, and now – magazines. This spring he released his first issue of Frère Cadet, a brand new arts and culture magazine.
Since Stuart broke out on the exhibit scene, his oil paintings have been exhibited in various galleries and museums around the Midwest. He uses painting as a means to keep himself driven, productive, and hopeful. Stuart aims to explore and understand the experiences, thoughts, and emotions he has, both good and not-so-good.
Creating during the pandemic has been simultaneously freeing and problematic for Stuart. “While the effects the pandemic have had on everyday life has undoubtedly impacted my work, I am always conscious to express a sense of hope along with the harsh realism of life on personal level as well as a global one.”
The paintings in this showcase are from a multi-media project entitled “Bouts.” “Each self-portrait depicts a different version of myself (who I am and who I want to be) wearing boxing gloves,” says Stuart. Other works include portraits that illustrate his experiences and relationships he has obtained over the past year. And true to form as an artist of the brush and pen, all of these works will be included in a book of typewritten essays and song lyrics entitled “Bouts.” A companion album of music will be released as well in early 2021.
See “Bouts…and Beyond” at Four Day Ray Brewing from January through March during their regular service hours. A reception date will be announced in the coming weeks. You can also view Stuart’s exhibit on our website.
