Noblesville Creates to Partner with Hamilton County for 200th Annual Squirrel Stampede
Noblesville Creates is proud to partner with Hamilton County Tourism for the 200th annual Squirrel Stampede. Throughout the month of September, Noblesville Creates and local partners will be hosting a series of events with exciting art opportunities. In 1822, an abundance of squirrels invaded the region during their migration south, trampling crops and causing mass environmental destruction. At the time, this was devastating to Central Indiana, but the story has become a part of folklore from Hamilton County’s past.
Many local organizations are getting involved in this year’s event. Caravan Classes (92 S. 9th St., Noblesville, IN) will have a 3-D Squirrel Habitat project. The Hamilton County Artists Association’s (195 S. 5th St, Noblesville), September Exhibit is entitled “Lions, and Tigers, and Squirrels, OH MY!”. Kiln Creations (60 N. 9th St, Noblesville) has unleashed 300 Clay Mold Squirrels, along with paint, all over Hamilton County.
“Kiln Creations is overjoyed to be the purveyor of fine ceramic squirrels here in Hamilton County,” said Louise Blazucki with Kiln Creations. “Here’s to hoping these sweet ceramic stand ins act as a talisman and protect your crop and home from being overrun by their furry counterparts!” If you’re interested in getting involved or receiving a free ceramic squirrel, Noblesville Creates is inviting the community to come to the Noblesville Creates campus and pick one up (1 per family.) The Clay Squirrels will need a good home, and in order to pick one up we ask that you do the following:
This Squirrel “celebration” also includes an arts initiative sponsored by Hamilton County Tourism. Event partners include the City of Fishers, City of Westfield, Primeval Brewing in Noblesville, Noblesville Creates, and the Carmel Clay Historical Society. Handbill Clay Acorn: September 2nd at Kiln Creations (60 N. 9th St., Noblesville), From 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. come and get messy with us as we build acorns! This is truly a beginner’s class, and you can create as many as you like! Add on additional acorns for just $15 and customize them to your taste. This is all in preparation for Squirrel Stampede- We will make many acorns as an offering to the squirrels! Like tall acorns? Fat acorns? Acorns with a hole for hanging? Let’s do it! Register your ticket, then add on as many extra acorns as you would like.
2nd Saturday: September 10 at Noblesville Creates (107 S. 8th Street, Noblesville), From 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. enjoy art activities, take home a Clay Squirrel with paints, and learn the Squirrel Stomp. From 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., dance the Squirrel Stomp to music performed by Noblesville’s hometown band The Moontown Pickle Stompers.
Squirrel Celebration: September 30 at Primeval Brewing (960 Logan St., Noblesville, IN 46060). 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. – Learn the Squirrel Stomp with local choreographer Gabrielle Morrison. 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. – Listen, dance, and celebrate squirrels with the local rock band “The Dead Squirrels.” Enjoy some good food, drink, and community inside Primeval Brewing.
