NOBLESVILLE, IND. — This November, unplug and create with Noblesville Creates in hipstoric Downtown Noblesville.
FEATURED EVENT:
Day of the Dead, Nov. 1, 4-9 p.m., $6 admission
Nothing brings life to the dead like art. Celebrate Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) on Nov. 1 at Noblesville Creates as we commemorate the Mexican holiday in our own funky way. We will amplify the artistic aspects of Day of the Dead to appeal to people young and old from a range of cultural backgrounds, complete with food, drinks, crafts, face painting and activities.
From 4 p.m. until 9 p.m., explore Mexican art and culture by learning about the holiday’s traditions, including the creation of altars; laying out offerings; and sharing food, music and stories with loved ones. Admission is $6. Advance registration is not required. Advance tickets are available at noblesvillecreates.org.
Ofrenda Making — Create your own Day of the Dead ofrenda (or altar) to honor and celebrate memories of a loved one that has passed away, such as a family member, friend or even a pet. In honor of Indiana’s Bicentennial, contribute to a collaborative shrine showcasing famous deceased Hoosiers that have made contributions to Indiana history.
Calavera Making — Children often receive delicious sugar skulls or calavera during Day of the Dead celebrations. Come and decorate your own version of a sugar skull and enjoy it afterwards!
Skull Face Painting — Children and adults alike will be transformed into Day of the Dead calavera characters with the help of our skilled face painter. This is always a huge hit!
Fortune-Telling — New this year: Join local artist Alys Caviness-Gober in fun Mexican-inspired fortune-telling including tarot cards, reading tea leaves and more!
Storytelling — Join Bob Sander from Storytelling Arts of Indiana for interactive storytelling throughout the evening. (Schedule available at noblesvillecreates.org.)
Local Haunts Pros — Visit with Michael and Nicole Kobrowski of Unseenpress.com Inc. to learn more about local haunts and see photos throughout the evening!
And More! — Other Day of the Dead activities will include hands-on Mexican folk crafts, music, piñata smashing and Mexican-inspired food and drinks. Come join us!
JURIED EXHIBIT:
Indiana’s Best & Brightest, Nov. 4-19
Artists accepted into Noblesville Creates’ 2016 juried art competition will show their winning work in the Judge Stone Gallery Nov. 4-19. Just in time for holiday shopping with most art for sale, the Indiana’s Best and Brightest exhibit will recognize some of the most outstanding artists in the Nickel Plate Region. The exhibit is part of Noblesville Creates’ year-long Bicentennial focus, offering us an opportunity to reflect on what we’ve seen throughout the year.
FIRST FRIDAY:
Nov. 4, 6-9 p.m.
Put on your fancy pants! We’re scaling up this First Friday reception for the opening of our juried art show. Indiana’s Best and Brightest will feature artwork from a juried art competition of the most outstanding artists in the NPArts region and beyond. Live music, hands-on activities and a special bar featuring wine, beer and champagne from Mr. G’s Liquor will make this one night out you won’t want to miss! Admission is free.
SOLO EXHIBIT:
Showcase Artist Rodney Reveal, Nov. 1-30
When J. Rodney Reveal is at work, it is most often at the Stephenson House on the Noblesville Creates campus inside his sunny studio. Through the month of November, he will allow his paintings to fill the downstairs of the Stephenson House, as we feature him as our Showcase Artist — just in time for holiday shopping.
Reveal has participated in the “Paint the Parks” national competition since 2007 and been in the top 100 four times. Other competitions include The Salon International in San Antonio, Texas, and the American Artist Watercolor magazine, in which he placed in the top 10. Presently, he and his wife live on a woodland farm outside of Arcadia surrounded by the subject matter he loves to paint. He has won numerous regional and national awards and his work is found in public and private collections throughout the United States, Europe and Brazil.
Reveal’s exhibit is open to the public during regular business hours; free admission. Works will be for sale to the public. The public is welcome to join Reveal for a special showcase reception on Sunday, Nov. 13, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
KIDS’ CLASS:
Holiday Art Makers, Nov. 22-Dec. 6, Tuesdays, 5:30-7 p.m. (3 classes)
Ho, ho, ho! Let your young artist take the role of artsy Santa by personalizing his or her own crafty Christmas gifts. Young artists can literally share their artistic gifts with loved ones! During the Holiday Art Makers class, students will make one-of-a-kind, handmade crafts and art perfect for wrapping up as gifts. Plus, young artists will use different artistic tools and techniques that can be used to personalize handmade gifts, like hand-lettering gift tags, printing your own wrapping paper and cards, and more!
We will offer a variety of projects that your child can use to personalize gifts for everyone on his or her gift list.
