Summer Performing Arts Camp July 25-29, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Give your young performer the venue and encouragement to take the stage! Noblesville Creates, in collaboration with Storytelling Arts of Indiana and Noblesville Parks and Recreation, presents its 2016 Summer Performing Arts Camp July 25-29. During each one-week session, campers will take part in creative, engaging projects to explore:

  • Improvisation
  • Theater
  • Music
  • Storytelling
  • More!

Noblesville Creates is working with local musicians, storytellers and other partners to develop a sampling of performing arts topics with ties to the visual arts, too! In addition to our own “Miss K” (Kavita Singh), two of our instructors are Bob Sanders of Storytelling Arts and artist/musician Janet Gilray.

Performing Arts Camp- Bob SanderSanders will instruct campers on how to “tell a lie” (tall tales) using technique, story development and originality right in time for the Annual Liar’s Contest at the Indiana State Fair. Sanders, an Indianapolis native, has always had a love for storytelling and how it creates bridges to other cultures, doors to the past, and tools for understanding and relaying deeper ideas hidden in narratives. He will lead campers as they develop their own tall tales, colorful characters and unique settings, and spin their tales into “tall” versions.

Performing Arts Camp- Janet Gilray aka Miss Melody, with Washboard, 2016 (1)Gilray will lead campers through a music lesson including the history of music, ranging from antique songs to what we hear today, and connecting kids to popular Indiana songs in time for the Bicentennial! Campers will discover how music and songwriting creates stories and memories, linking back to the stories they are developing with Sanders as part of the storytelling component. Kids will have the opportunity to sample a variety of instruments in Gilray’s “instrument petting zoo” including guitars, fiddles, dulcimers and more!

Camp will be held at the Noblesville Recreation Annex at Ivy Tech Community College in partnership with Noblesville Parks & Recreation.

  • Age Range: 8-12
  • Location: Recreation Annex at Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana, 300 North 17th St., Noblesville
  • Price: $195/camper for Noblesville residents; $225/camper for non-residents. Campers must bring their own sack lunches.
