Indiana Wind Symphony: Rhapsody in Blue: The Centennial

Indiana Wind Symphony: Rhapsody in Blue: The Centennial

On February 24, 1924, a concert titled “An Experiment in Modern Music” brought together musical great such as John Philip Sousa, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Leopold Stokowski, Jascha Heifetz, and Ernest Bloch, along with all of the music critics in New York. One work stood out and has since withstood the test of time: “Rhapsody in Blue.”

100 years later, piano soloist Kelleen Strutz will perform the work at this concert. Other Gershwin favorites will include “Strike Up the Band,” “Swanee,” selections from “Porgy and Bess,” and “Prelude No. 2,” a little-known title but a recognizable melody.
