Artist Showcase: Jan Snyder’s “Pathways”

Local artist, President of the Equine Arts Guild, and former Noblesville Creates Studio Artist Jan Snyder will be showcasing a new collection of art in our Stephenson House gallery this August. Her exhibit, “Pathways,” will feature the results of her exploration into a looser, freer style of painting. She says, “I’m embarking on new and exciting changes in my personal life, leading me down new paths, so this title is more than appropriate!”

Artistically, Jan’s curiosity can be observed in her multifaceted creative endeavors: with a background in graphic design, she has painted animals, mandalas, and even children’s faces as a part-time face painter. Her high school art teacher – by whom she was strongly influenced – often stressed realism, which led her to a four-year-long focus on animal portraiture, almost exclusively. Her love of horses is evident in her many equestrian-themed works. This new shift in focus comes from a desire to explore less controlled, realistic styles. Often finding inspiration in her day-to-day activities, Jan says she is often moved by the play of light through a canopy of trees or a morning mist rising from Morse Lake near her home. Again, she is driven by curiosity: “I have always been drawn to paths, whether it’s a deer path I find while hiking or simply a winding driveway… I want to see what’s at the end of that path, and all the intriguing plants and wildlife with their myriad colors along the journey.”

Curious to see the results of Jan’s explorations? Plan to attend the exhibit reception on August 3rd from 6-9pm during Noblesville Creates’ monthly First Friday programming. Jan will also have artwork in “Unbridled Art”, our August Judge Stone House gallery exhibit, coordinated by the Equine Art Guild of which Jan co-founded and is the current president. Outside of the reception, “Pathways” will be viewable to the public during our normal gallery hours, Wednesday – Friday from noon – 5pm and Saturday 10am – 5pm.
