2021 – August Featured Partner Events

Each month, we gather information about our Featured Partners  and their upcoming events in one spot so that it’s easy for you to see what’s coming up.  That spot is right here!

2021 NICE Workshop #1: Introduction to 2021’s Four Books & Passages
Thursday, August 5

Noblesville Interdisciplinary Creativity Expo (NICE) project, now in its 7th year, is an annual project is based upon our love of classic literature. Each year, the project offers four books and four standalone passages, one from each book, for discussion, analysis, introspection, and ultimately inspiration for new creative pieces in any medium or genre of the Arts. 2021’s book selections are: Sula (1973) by Toni Morrison, The Yellow Wallpaper (1892; short story) by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, A Wrinkle in Time (1962) by Madeleine L’Engle, and Tarzan of the Apes (1912) by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Inspired creations can be presented in our presentations event (submission deadline Sept. 23; event date Sept. 30). You do not need to be familiar with the books or passages to participate in NICE!
This workshop introduces 2021’s four books and their four standalone passages. We’ll share brief introductions for each book and a little about why we chose each book for this year’s project, then we’ll dive right into the four standalone passages:

  • any common themes across all four books and/or passages?
  • what’s happening in each passage? (actions, thoughts, reverie, dialogue, etc)
  • what emotions do you feel from each passage?
  • what personal connections or experiences come to mind?
  • inspiration for new art creations (all mediums/genres)

Music and All That Jazz

Art Fair on the Square, Sponsored by the Hamilton County Artists’ Association

The Annual Fair will feature over 40 vendors of fine art in painting, jewelry, pottery, photography, and textiles. The Juried Fair is a fun opportunity to stroll the beautiful Noblesville Courthouse Square and to purchase a quality piece of art. The square is nestled next to the White River with walkways along the river’s edge and conveniently located across the bridge from the weekly Farmers’ Market. Shopping for artistic and appetite cravings are all satisfied during this exciting event.

Ignite Studio Callout for “Work in Progress” Exhibit

​​Ignite Studio at the Hamilton East Public Library in Fishers has opened a call for art for our next exhibit “Work in Progress.” We are seeking art in a variety of mediums for this group exhibit.
Art is never done; it’s only due. Have you started a new medium? Do you have that piece that never seems complete? How does your art represent you as a “work in progress?” Ignite Studio seeks work in a variety of mediums that reveal our not-quite-finished selves. Share your interpretation of personal transformation through art in this group show.

  • we can find problematic content throughout this book: racial issues, sexual issues, violence, etc. They all add to the story; how?
  • Female friendship: are Nell and Sula a good example of female friendship?
  • what’s happening in this passage? (actions, thoughts, reverie, dialogue, etc)
  • what emotions do you feel from the passage? (any difference between reading silently or hearing it read aloud)
  • what personal connections or experiences come to mind?
    inspiration for new art creations (all mediums/genres)
