Critt Hunter has been on an amazing journey as an artist, and last year’s Noblesville Creates gala included a memorable milestone for him. “Noblesville Creates truly, truly holds a special place in my heart. The impact that Nickel Plate brought me, gave me strength. Imagine an almost 70 year old receiving ‘Emerging Artist’?!?! Never, ever did I imagine such an acceptance. Truly, I cannot imagine where my vision would be today if I had not encountered Nickel Plate.”
Creating art has been a through line in Hunter’s life. “I was a 3rd grader who earned A's, whose timidity merited excellent conduct marks, yet it was an Art Contest that brought my personal best reward and a Blue Ribbon. How important small experiences presented by wonderful educators change lives.” While he continued artistic pursuits throughout college and beyond, he felt he did not possess the creative talents needed to become a full time artist. It was not until his senior years that he began stretching color and experienced acceptance into exhibits, art fairs, The Hoosier Salon, and Indiana Artisan that he realized his passion was appreciated by others. “Why do I create? My paintings since COVID and retirement bring personal satisfaction ...painting content that I desired, I found a welcome validation.”
After 3 years of living the full-time artist life, Hunter is narrowing his focus to all florals, which will be on display in his upcoming exhibit, The Sensation of Vibrant Color. He believes those best represent his desire to bring happiness to the viewer. “My desired audience is anyone who appreciates the time involved in a painting and the thought process behind composition, technique, and color.” His goal is that the viewer will take an "aesthetic pause" and closely study his work. “Within those moments, I hope the viewer realizes how my art brings interest and joy. Many artists paint florals and studies of various flowers. Hopefully my color vibrancy results in a positive memorable difference.”
The full The Sensation of Vibrant Color exhibit can be seen in the Stephenson House on Noblesville Creates campus October 6 through 28, Wednesday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You can meet Hunter at his free public reception during Noblesville Creates October First Friday on Noblesville Creates campus.
